Highway Rehabilitation
Project ANGOLA

Rehabilitation,
resilience

The National Highway 120, which stretches 250.8 kilometres, is located in South Kwanza Province and is the main road of the National Highway Network which connects Luanda, the capital of Angola, and Huambo, the second largest city of Angola. Damage caused by a 35-year armed conflict led the Angolan Government to introduce an extensive rehabilitation and reconstruction program for the road system.

Part of this rehabilitation project focused on National Highway 120, which was deemed a ‘national priority’. Phoenix Bridge was tasked with working on a 64-kilometre section of the road and had to overcome challenges such as a shortage of materials and technical resources available. This project has now been completed and opened to traffic, effectively reducing the transportation costs between Luanda and Huambo. It also allowed residents to access the essential supplies of food, clothing, and healthcare, whilst promoting the economic development of the South Kwanza Province and surrounding areas.
